Smart Home & Building Award Recognises Energy Harvesting Bluetooth Low Energy Switch

The Electron d’Or Awards hosted in Paris, France last week, presented the ‘Connected Objects/Intelligent Building Award’ to the Bluetooth Low Energy Switch from OnSemiconductor, which features the energy harvesting generator from ZF Friedrichshafen AG. This years’ awards featured the theme of Smart Home and Smart Building, highlighting the extensive applications available to the switch.

The design of the Energy Harvesting Bluetooth® Low Energy switch combines the generator from ZF with the industry’s lowest power Bluetooth® 5 RSL10 SIP from ON Semiconductor and is ideal for developing battery-less and maintenance-free IoT applications in the field of Bluetooth® Low Energy communication. The energy harvesting generator, incorporated with the RSL10 SIP, enables designers to develop bespoke wireless and battery-free control solutions for a wide range of low cost, low-energy applications including building and home automation, lighting, shutter control, health care, alarm systems, fall detection, and vehicle counting.

A supporting demo kit based on the reference design for the Energy Harvesting Bluetooth Low Energy Switch, and ON Semiconductor’s Bluetooth IoT Development Kit (B-IDK) is also available from ON Semiconductor. The kit shows the capabilities of the battery-free and wireless switch in combination with an LED lighting application.
